HOW TO GET STARTED ON PINTEREST

Everyone is on Pinterest, right? So should you jump on the bandwagon and start pinning till your heart’s content? Well, the short answer in ‘maybe’.

Allow me to explain…

There are a few reasons to get involved in Pinterest right away:

  • You want to build global awareness (and can easily and seamlessly provide and/or ship from your business or service overseas)
  • Your website (and/or blog) is ready to handle lots more traffic than usual
  • You love the idea of engaging with your fans/customers/clients/followers and are ready to understand what they like

And there are also a few things that tell me your business shouldn’t be on Pinterest:

  • Your website isn’t ready
  • You don’t know how your target audience is
  • The idea of content creation and curation freaks you out

If the above apply to you and your business, consider getting some marketing help ASAP!

But, if you are ready, following are some simple steps you need to take to get pinning and make the most of this unique social platform.

SIGN UP FOR PINTEREST FOR BUSINESS

All you need to do here is head to pinterest.com, sign up and fill in your details. If you already have an account, it can easily be converted to a business account via the convert now link on the page.

Start by adding some boards in the categories in which you’d like to organise your pins and you’re all set.

PIN IT BUTTON

Adding a Pin It button allows readers, fans, followers and potential customers or clients to easily pin images from your website or blog onto their boards.

The Pin It button is particularly important if you have product pages as it allows people to check your items out and save for later, almost like a wishlist.

Those more savvy digital business people will be able to add the button via this page, otherwise get your web developer on it.

RICH PINS

Basically rich pins give way more info to the pinner than a regular pin does, a direct link straight through to your website and adds your business logo to search results. It’s certainly worth it!

To do so, your business needs to be verified by Pinterest and you can do that here. But the best thing is that the experience of a pinner adding your pin to their board is exactly the same as it would normally be.

Now you’re ready to get your business pinning!
