Having great content, posting regularly and understanding your social media audience are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to engagement and interaction across these platforms.
But here are a few tips that will get you started on increasing your engagement levels.
POST ABOUT EVENTS/TOPICS THAT ARE TRENDING
Check out what is trending on Twitter and Facebook and jump on the bandwagon – especially if you have a different/unique point of view.
Pick your passion topic, business category or a subject area in which you are an ‘expert’ in and make sure you know what you’re talking about because nothing grows your engagement like a good Insta-debate.
This will help to bring some fresh traffic to your page/s and hopefully draw them to your website as well.
INCORPORATE USER-GENERATED CONTENT
One of the easiest and most convenient ways to raise engagement on your social media pages is by integrating user-generated content. What do we mean by that? By asking your followers to submit their own content for a particular hashtag campaign over a period of time.
Queensland Tourism had a great example with The Best Job In The World as an island caretaker in the #GreatBarrierReef. Of course, the campaign went viral with 34,000 user-submitted videos.
Using a hashatag (#) is the easiest way to keep track of a particular campaign, particularly across Twitter and Instagram, and even makes reporting back on its successes and failures much easier. Reposting (re-gramming and re-tweeting) this user-generated content is a great way to block up any holes in your social media content schedule as well.
ORGANISE CONTESTS/COMPETITIONS/GIVEAWAYS
The best starting point for this is to think creatively and come up with a competition that speaks directly to your target audience – something that they will want to share and join in.
Again, getting your audience to repost will increase your interaction and engagement rates and probably succeed in rustling up a few more followers along the way (especially if you ask them to follow you).
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A CALL TO ACTION
This may sound like the simplest advice ever: Ask a question. Get your followers to discuss, comment, debate and interact by asking them to do so. You never know – it may just work!
